In August 2020 mid Pandemic an amazing lighting storm rolled over the coast of Santa Cruz. The isolation, toxic air quality and death of a fellow skater had me looking for an escape. With the help of a few friends I was able to quarantine on Oahu.

The mind is a powerful thing that seeks out stimulus; responding with healthy interactions has proved challenging in the past year. However I was able to minimize my risk and nurture my soul with the path less traveled.

A short drive from Honolulu, Aiea loop is great. The trail offers incredible views of Halawa Valley and the southern coastline of Oahu. The trail itself is a relaxing walk through lush groves of lemon eucalyptus, Norfolk pine and native koa and ʻōhiʻa trees. You used to be able to see remnants of a B-24 bomber that crashed there 1944 from one point on the trail, but these days it’s difficult, not impossible.

Pearl Harbor Historic Trail is a 7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trails. The trail is generally safe the scenery is not great, there are a couple homeless camps (some have been decorated really cool), a lot of street urchins fishing next to the contaminated seafood sign from a small sewage plant.

It is not for sightseers although it does take you near the Navy’s boneyard in Middle Loch if you like old ships.

Rollertainment

Roller Skating has gained momentum during Covid

Find an empty parking lot, selecting your musical vibrations and Roll till you can feel a smile in your soul. Be mindful skating is not a Crime but we can ruin a spot by disrespecting it.

Roller Skating Foodie

As a chef I’m always Looking for Local, Organic and Sustainable foodie finds. After my quarantine I prepared Home style meals and Uncle Larry has a sweet tooth 🤙 Thank goodness these tasty treats are available at local retailers. Supporting small business in Covid is key if we want them to be there when things reopen.

Ted’s Bakery located in Haleiwa, HI. Home of the original chocolate haupia cream pie. Located in Sunset Beach.

Uncle’s is Serving up smiles. A passion for spreading joy and connection, one truly special ice cream sandwich at a time. Ice cream is fun!

Creating wellness with flavor is what Laulau is all about. When I noticed the local county worker traveled on their lunch for Waiahole, you know it’s a great food find. Order online , pick up your order ToGo and enjoy 🤙

Fresh Island ingredients are so fun, my Ohana subscribes to O’ahu Fresh a service dedicated to building a community-based food system. Their members have access to fresh produce from local farmers and specialty products from local artisans. Look at this beautiful Dragonfruit.

“You never really travel alone, The world is full of friends waiting to get to know you” 🛼

Warm Sand

Ancient healing tradition that helps reduce pain include Sand. Warming the body uniformly helping to relieve stress and pain. The heat also causes you to sweat, detoxifying the body and the moisture is wicked away by the sand.

“Staring at the ocean actually changes our brain waves’ frequency and puts us into a mild meditative state.” A study published in the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s journal even found that blue is associated with a boost of creativity.

Enjoy the warmth in the sand; Create Wellness with Flavor ~ Chef Nic
